Living in the middle of the woods has many advantages: the beautiful landscape, no horns honking, peaceful and quiet evenings to sit on the porch, hearing the crickets chirping, and lots of wildlife. Deer shed their rack after mating season each fall. Starting in late December and carrying on through about April (depending on where you live) you’ll start finding shed antlers out in the woods. Antlers don’t always have to be in a woodland setting. Here are 5 creative ways you can decorate with antlers in your own unique style.
1. vase or basket filler
The easiest way to gather your antlers in a creative way is to pile them into a large clear vase or wire basket. This arrangement can be a focal point on a coffee table or bookshelf. Or make a beautiful centerpiece for a table. Depending on your décor, this arrangement can make a highlight in a modern setting, or it can blend perfectly within a rustic environment.
2. tablescape accessory
In correspondence with tip number one above. Using antlers for tablescape décor creates a beautiful and natural looking display. Use richly colored flowers and antlers for a filler to add to your tablescape. For a display that’s a little more playful, use gold spray paint to color artificial antlers and accessorize with metallic accents. Here I used antlers for a Father’s Day tablescape.
3. wreath filler
You can also use antlers to decorate a wreath. Mix them in with natural greenery, or create a seasonal wreath. Use a grapevine wreath for the base, and fashion it with fall leaves, flowers, or even feathers, and use the antlers for an unexpected finishing touch.
4. Antlers used as table decor
Antlers bring an interesting look when coupled with regular candles, or even just placed on their own on a coffee table as an accessory. Using antlers for book ends adds so much character to a small space. Positioning antlers on a mantel is another unique way to bring in a natural look into any space.
5. Creating a light fixture
Antler chandeliers are a beautiful rustic décor that goes with any style home. Before you take the plunge to pay a hefty fee for one already made, take a shot at making a DIY deer antler chandelier on your own–it’s easy and cheap.
